Do you only play Mozart?
No! Although we do often play Mozart, we play repertoire of all styles and periods. To get a better idea of what we play, check out our past repertoire!
How often do you perform?
We perform two concerts per year in Paine Hall. Additionally, we usually perform in Sanders Theatre as part of the Harvard Arts Festival every spring.
How big is MSO?
We are a classical-sized orchestra, with around 40 members depending on the year.
How much of a time commitment is MSO?
Rehearsals are held in Paine Hall every Sunday from 7:00-9:30PM.
How do I audition?
Auditions are held at the beginning of each semester, and you can sign up on our auditions page. That page also has more detailed information about the auditions process.
Is MSO only for Harvard undergrads?
Although the orchestra mostly consists of undergraduates, MSO is open to the entire Harvard community, including graduate students, faculty and other affiliates. If you’re not sure whether you’re eligible, contact us!
Do you accept pianists?
Yes, although we generally do not have more than 1-2 pianists at any given time. In addition to performing piano, harpsichord and celesta parts in our repertoire, pianists usually help cover missing parts during rehearsals and sectionals.
Do members have to re-audition every year?
No, returning MSO members do not need to re-audition.
