Audition Details

Please prepare a solo work or two solo works of your choice totaling approximately 5-7 minutes. This could be a part of a concerto, sonata, or a solo passage from a major orchestral work. Two contrasting excerpts are preferred (can be from the same work as long as they differ in tempi, mood, etc.), but not required. No scales, no sight-reading, no accompaniment and no memorization are required!

For in-person auditions, make sure to arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled audition time and check in at the MSO table in front of Music Building Room 6. There will be a warm-up room reserved for auditionees, but feel free to sign up for your own practice room in the music building. Room 6 is down the corridor on the first floor of the Peabody Mason Music Building.

MSO holds auditions at beginning of each semester. Auditions are open to all classical musicians in the Harvard community. Returning players do not have to re-audition once they are accepted.

We rehearse every Sunday 7-9:30 pm in Paine Hall, and hold one concert each semester. Additionally, we perform in the Harvard Arts Festival every spring.

If you have any questions about the orchestra or the audition process, please email mozartsocietyorchestra@gmail.com.
