Aquila Nakachi Wolff ’27 is a violinist and conductor from Sapporo, Japan. A resident of Currier House, he studies Chemistry and Physics while conducting research at MIT in the field of computational chemistry. Outside of his concentration, he also likes to study math and foreign languages. In his spare time, he listens to classical music and frequents BSO and Boston Ballet performances. His favorite composers include Tchaikovsky, Mahler, Ravel, and his friend Christian Yom. 

Wolff works to bring orchestral music to a greater portion of the Harvard community through MSO and his other engagements. Since the 2026 spring season, he has served as music director for the Harvard Ballet Company, bringing live orchestral accompaniment to the ballet for the first time in several years. He also served as assistant music director for the original musical The Crane Wife’s Return of a Favor.

Wolff joined MSO his freshman fall, and in his sophomore and junior years, led the orchestra as president. In his junior year, he was elected AMD, and has since striven to expand the size and repertoire scope of the orchestra in order to create more opportunities for Harvard musicians to collaborate and coalesce around symphonic works. In addition to MSO, Wolff is involved in many other music-related activities, including the Bach Society Orchestra and the Harvard Baroque Chamber Orchestra.

Wolff has been studying violin with Yukari Fukushima since the age of five. He has studied conducting with Rachel Brake and currently studies under Ken Yanagisawa and Federico Cortese.
